How to Check an Engagement Ring Online: Photo, Video, Live 3D or Certificate
A live 3D view shows the design: how the stone is held, how high it sits, how wide the band is. A laboratory report proves the diamond. A hallmark proves the gold. Photos and videos show the angles someone chose for you, so they answer fewer of these questions than they seem to. This guide goes through what to check, in what order, and what no screen can tell you.

Open a Solitaire Studio ring in 3D
Most product pages give you a few fixed views, so you can see five pictures and still not know the side view, which is the angle most people see when a ring is worn. A live 3D view is the one source where you choose the angle and the distance. In the Solitaire Studio you can also slide the centre stone from 1 to 5 carats on a hand image to judge its size.
Kove rings are made to order, so the images and videos on their pages are computer renders of the design, not photographs of a finished piece. It is worth asking of any picture online: does it show this ring, or the design?
Five things to look at in a 3D view
Turn the ring slowly before you zoom. These are the details that are hardest to judge from a single picture.
- The prongs: count them and look at their shape from above. Four prongs leave more of the stone visible, six put more metal around it.
- The height of the setting: turn the ring to the side. A high setting shows off the stone and catches more on sleeves. A low one sits closer to the finger.
- The underside: look below the stone from the side. A hidden halo or a small row of diamonds under the centre stone is often missing from the front view.
- The band: check its width and whether it narrows towards the stone. If she will wear a wedding band beside it, see how much room the setting leaves.
- The back of the ring: turn it right round. A band should look finished all the way.
What a screen cannot prove
A 3D view shows the design. It cannot grade a diamond or test gold.
- The diamond: colour, clarity, cut and carat come from the laboratory report. Every centre diamond above 0.30 ct on a Kove ring comes with its own report from an independent laboratory, such as IGI or GIA, and you can check the number on the laboratory’s website. In the Solitaire Studio you receive the report with your sourced diamond.
- The gold: purity is proved by the official hallmark, 585 for 14K and 750 for 18K. It can only be checked on the ring itself. Kove is registered with the Czech Assay Office under No. 15432, and the registration document is available on request.
- The fit: weight on the finger and comfort cannot be seen on a screen. Our ring size guide gives three ways to measure at home. Colours also vary between screens, so treat the gold colour in any online view as a close guide.

Frequently asked questions
Can I see an engagement ring in 3D before buying it online?
Yes, where the shop offers a live 3D view. At Kove, 124 ring versions across 14 designs have one: press View in 3D on the product page, then turn and zoom the ring in your browser. You need no app and no account.
Is the ring in the 3D view exactly what I will receive?
The view is built from the ring’s 3D design file, so it shows the design. Proportions of the setting can adapt to your stone and ring size, and the stone size in the view does not change. Screen colours can differ slightly from real gold.
Can I change the gold colour or the stone shape in the 3D view?
Yes. On a phone the options and the price sit under the ring. On a computer you use the options on the product page, and the view updates.
Can a 3D view show the quality of the diamond?
No. Colour, clarity, cut and carat come from the laboratory report. Check the IGI or GIA report number on the laboratory’s website.
What if the ring size is wrong?
The first resize is free if you write to us within 60 days of delivery. We confirm what the design allows first: most designs can go up to 2 EU sizes larger or smaller, and rings with stones all the way around the band cannot be resized.
Can I return a made-to-order ring?
Made-to-order pieces are excluded from the EU 14-day withdrawal right, which is why checking first matters. At Kove you have a 48-hour window to change the specification after ordering, the first resize is free, and defects are covered by the statutory 24-month warranty.
Which Kove pieces have a 3D view?
124 ring versions across 14 designs: 116 in the Solitaire Studio and 8 outside it. Earrings and pendants do not have one yet.
